Austenitic steel grade TP 304, tp304h, tp304l |
Type 304 ( 0Cr18Ni9 ); the most common grade; the classic 18/8 stainless steel.
TP 304 has an economic balance ofalloying elements to ensure its good cold formability, corrosionresistance, toughness and good mechanical properties with noexcessive work-hardening. It performs well in unpollutedatmospheres but can tarnish or lightly rust in damp atmospheresaround some industrial and on/offshore locations. The steel hasbeen used extensively for potable water tubing and in freshfeedwater systems where precautions are taken to avoid creviceattack under deposits, etc. Performance in aerated seawater is notgood without adequate galvanic or cathodic protection. Stability andtoughness at cryogenic temperatures is high.
TP 304H=UNS S30409 with guaranteed carbon content of min. 0,04% which givesa better creep resistance. Similar oxidation resistance to TP 304.Main applications: Heat exchangers, chemical and petrochemicalfurnaces.
TP 304L=UNS S30403=1.4306, Low carbon version of TP 304 guaranteed no creep resistance above 500°C. Good high temperature oxidation resistance up to 900°C. Generalcorrosion characteristics are similar to TP 304. Stability and toughness at cryogenic temperatures is high. Main applications: pipes and Heat exchanger tubes in chemical, petrochemical and food industries.
